Systemic Therapy

Systemic therapists are trained to look at each individual as part of a greater system. As individuals we spend most of our time in a bigger system, whether that is waking up with your family each day, going into work and being with colleagues, going to school with friends, or being part of a community. Many of our conflicts we deal with in life have to do with interactions with others, this fact shows the importance of looking at ourselves as individuals and how we interact and relate to others.

Rather than looking at relationship interactions linearly, systemically trained therapists are able to look at the circular nature of interactional patterns. When we experience conflicts in our relationships, we tend to want to blame others (linear) and systemic therapists help each client to understand and accept their part in the interactional pattern (circular). With this understanding, clients are better able to cultivate change within themselves, helping them to relate and respond more positively in their relationships.
